The Underworld Of Local Search

Helping Website's Be The Best They Can Be Since 1999

Category: SEO

Last updated by at .

As a local search optimization professional, I’m steadily reviewing other sites and using Google all day long — on most days. What I’ve come to find through my website reviews, more so than not is that most websites aren’t optimized for on site strategies. Before you leave this page, due to you already knowing all there is to know about on site SEO – give me a moment of your precious time.

Many of the sites I’ve recently reviewed are those of my competitors — SEO Companies. To my surprise, most of these SEO Companies had a very poor on site SEO score.

Whoa — Why is This?

It’s simple — most people, including SEO’s like to presume that Link Building is number one. Now, don’t get me wrong, there are more than enough websites out there that teach things that are far from the truth. It’s not because these website authors are trying to lead you in the wrong direction, it’s solely due to the fact that they too was taught the wrong way. They paid a little bit too much attention to those who called themselves professionals, when in reality they are still a baby in this business.

I tend to not judge others. Those who fell into the trap of the blind leading the blind. These guys simply need to be taught how to do things more correctly.

One of the biggest misconceptions in the SEO community is:

Title tags: Google measures it in character limits. This is not true. Google measures title tags by pixels.

In order for you to make sure your title tags are SEO optimized correctly, you need to export your title tag data into an Excel doc. You then must change the font you’re using, to Arial. Make sure to use font size 12. This is exactly what Google uses.

Set the Excel column width to 520 pixels — that’s Google’s cut off limit. Anything more than the standard 520 pixels is going too be too long and anything under 350 pixels is going to be too short. Follow the directions I’ve provided you 100%

My Recommended guideline for perfectly optimized title tags:

Roughly 50 to 65 characters in length.
Use unique titles on every page.
Use the title tag keyword twice (once at the start, followed by separator, and then once again in a call to action).
If relevant, include a geo-qualifier (such as Kentucky or Morehead, Ky).

Image Optimization Tips:

One of the biggest mistakes I see, is how webmasters (webdummies) use numbers and other crap to identify an image. I’m not talking about the image ALT text, I’m referring to the “name” of the image. This plays an important role in your overall optimization score.

Image names should be description in nature. They should accurately explain to a search crawler what the image is about. If your image is used as a link, the ALT tag functions in place of the anchor text. A linked image should follow this structure:

By ensuring that all images are properly named and tagged, you will not only increase the SEO value of those images, but you will increase the likelihood of receiving referral traffic from image search results.

Local Search Optimization isn’t just about Link Acquisition. Above I’ve provided a couple of awesome tips you can be using, to help you do much better in search. I will be providing a more in depth article, including more advanced tutorials, in our upcoming blog posts. Stay tuned!

website code ranking factorsAs the title states – it’s not the size of the ####, it’s the motion in the ocean.  After seeing the title, did you have a feeling that the last word in that sentence was going to be “ocean”?  For those of you who assumed this post is going to be about something perverted — I’m ashamed that you’d seriously think you’d find content like that here on RxSEO. Get your dirty little minds out of the gutter!

I want to take up a little space in this amazing webosphere of ours, to discuss a topic that isn’t discussed often enough — the ranking benefits, user friendly approach, site speed and all of the other amazing benefits of not using WordPress plugins, having too much unnecessary code, Flash and well…. to make a relitively long story short, reducing the size of your site code.

It’s Not The Size of The Boat – It’s The Motion In The Creek

I think it was Aaron Wall whom first related link building to the fight club metaphor, by using the term:

The first rule of link building is to not talk about link building! – Aaron Wall

And well since it hasn’t been done just yet, I suppose you could now say that Gregory Smith is the first person to use the fight club metaphor: The rule of website code in terms with SERP ranking, is to not talk about site code.

Not a very good ring to it, I realize that. Though I have performed comparisons in various websites of mine, and paid close attention to the sites of my clients, for what seems like decades. What I’ve come to terms with accepting, is the fact that the more (heavy) code a website uses — the less percentage of success that website will have, when competing with much less weighted websites, in the SERP.

Local Link Building – - From all the riff raff I’ve listened to throughout all this Google Penguin crap, I’m almost to the point of being sick of telling people that spam doesn’t work. I wish I knew how many times I’ve told business owners that in order to manage a successful online presence, one must build their website with quality links and quality content. That’s really what it all boils down to. People aren’t just now starting to build successful websites or make money online. Online marketing and SEO has been going on now for almost 20 years! Get with the program guys.

Here’s a really awesome video that I think many of you will enjoy.

Link Building Tips 2013

A little hard work goes a long ways, especially when you practice what you preach. Local Link Building is different from your average link building campaigns. If you’ve never targeted a local keyword before, you sure as hell don’t have any business offering local SEO services – you need a ton of hands on practice by practicing on your personal sites – long before you go spamming your services. What gets me is that not everyone can be a SEO. SEO isn’t something you just one day decide you want to do, then just do.

Just because some of you out there are search engine marketers and web developers, that doesn’t mean that the rest of the world is just like you. In fact — the biggest percentage of people who browse online have no earthly idea what an organic search listing is or how to know when they see one. Many of you who practice SEO and offer your SEO services are completely BLIND when it comes to conversions. You’re trying like hell to sell SEO when in truth your potential customer don’t even know what SEO is — when in reality they need it more than anything.

What I’m going to do here today, isn’t for our regular readers, but is for the beginner marketer and for the average person who wants a clearer view of what organic search results are and how to tell them apart from the rest of the crap Google shows them. Before I delve too deeply into this subject I first want to lay down the laws of using Google.

How To Use Google & A Greater Understanding of the Google Search Engine

Rule number one: The next time you perform a search on Google, whether it be for a toy for your little girl or for some new tools for your husband – after you enter your keyword and hit “enter” – Google pulls up a whole page of listings. DO NOT CLICK ON THE ONES YOU SEE FIRST (On Top Of The Page). These will have a pinkish tent behind them, pink in color. These are paid advertisements. Businesses pay Google a lot of money to have their ads placed there and Google also subtracts another fee each and every time someone clicks on their ad. These listing (Ads) will take you to a website, normally a low quality website. A website where the website owner didn’t have to work to achieve these high placements on the first page of Google – they paid for them. To receive the much higher quality sites, those with the much higher quality information and better quality products – you need to avoid the ads, and scroll down to below the colored background ones.

Here’s a Better View For You

how to use google

The above image is an image I took directly of the first page of Google. The ads will be shown to YOU placed above the Organic listings. Organic listings are listings that achieved that position in Google by working very hard and doing whats right for all their customers.

If I had to guess I’d say that 100% of you have asked yourself or someone else this question, at some point in the past. The question still remains — some speculate whether or not there’s actually an answer to such a question — pertaining to which keyword one would be focusing on.

How long will it take before I’ll see my ranking results?

All of my clients have asked this question. It never fails, and I don’t suspect it ever will. I’ve started giving all my clients the same answer, even though all my clients are very different, the fact shall remain; how long it will take to get YOU rankings — will determine many factors, though one of those will always conclude — Local SEO is a long term process, and doesn’t come overnight. Although this is the answer in which makes many potential customers turn their cheek from wanting to invest in SEO, it’s a fact. Whether or not you predict your business to be standing in several months from now, should also be something you should be concerned about. I’ve never really understood the fact that clients want results now — but not tomorrow. Sure Local SEO takes some time, and then again so does anything worth achieving.

How Long Does Local SEO Take

As local search marketers, we have all got our personal opinions — some of them are right and some are well…wrong.

There’s just too many questions, especially when it comes to search engines and internet marketing. As a strategically competitive Search Engine Optimization (SEO) consultant, it is my job to keep “time spent” to a minimum, when evaluating a potential sale. This theory should abide true for all of us, and as a SEO consultant or webmaster of any kind, not only should you have your business running successful, you must be successful  in all areas of your life — even if some of you have to pretend.

Provided here are a selected few, in which I’ve placed together to make a questionnaire. This is a client questionnaire — this questionnaire was created for you to hand out to potential customers. These questions will assist you in the overall SEO process, providing you with almost all of the information you’ll need in order to manage their SEO campaign, This is the same questionnaire I will be using in this new year of 2013.

Please don’t copy and paste this content anywhere else online. It can be copied and used in emails, and copied to be used for offline marketing, and that’s it.
1. Which website analytics tracking system do you use (If Any), and can we gain access to it?

Web analytics are the key to measuring the current level of SEO success (or lack thereof). They’re also the key to determining whether any future SEO implementation is helping to bring more targeted traffic. Therefore, it’s critical for me to have access to this information regardless of the level of SEO service I’m providing. If you use Google Analytics, it’s very simple to add new users to the account and in most cases it’s fine to provide report-only access (rather than admin). Along with Google Analytics, I also ask for access to your Google Webmaster Tools (GWMT) account. These days, if you have Google Analytics access, you can usually add the same website to your GWMT account as well, which makes the process easier.

2. What’s the purpose of your site and who is your target audience?

Some of you will try to cop out: “Well, the purpose of our site is to sell our product.” And your target audience? ”Umm … anyone with a credit card?” Not very helpful. If you don’t have a good handle on who the people are who are buying YOUR PRODUCTS, how will I be able to help you bring those people to your website?

3. Are there any other domains or sites that you own or control, or that you used to use instead of the current domain? (PLEASE list them ALL.)

This information is important so that if needed, I will be able to gain assess to any duplicate content issues. I need to know whether that other site I found that is using nearly the same content as yours, is owned by you, or if someone scraped yours. I also need to know if you’re using multiple domains as an SEO strategy (so I can smack you!). I added this one to my questionnaire when I kept finding doorway domains or other sites that my clients *forgot* to tell me about. Even those who really do forget or who purposely don’t tell me about their additional domains aren’t getting away with anything. I usually end up finding them during my website audit process. So if you’re a client, do us both a favor and come clean from the start. This will save us all some time down the line! (And I was just kidding about smacking you.)

Yesterday I had three interested potential customers to contact me — Customers teach us so many things, we more so than not, look over the learning experience of it all. Today I felt the need to offer some awesome benefits to you marketers, as well as those of you whom are a network marketer, promoting an MLM company. This article isn’t going to talk about pyramid schemes, nor am I going to try and recruit you. What I am going to do however — is show you exactly what you’re doing wrong and teach you just how easily you can follow my exact MLM network marketing blueprint. Tons of MLM companies fail every month online, and so do thousands of network marketers involved in an MLM. This isn’t a coincidence, it’s been the same damn thing for many years. So much so that many have labeled MLM as a pyramid scheme, which is untrue. You simply have to have the “know how” — I’m afraid that the rest is a cake walk.

When I started out as an internet marketer, I was far from a guru. In fact, I was in the exact learning phase, as you’re in today.  All of us – have to take one baby step at a time, until we reach the top of this mountain were climbing. Whether you succeed in “your business” is solely up to you. Some of us never give up. We are destined for success. Though as long as you’re involved in an MLM — there’s really only a couple of ways to succeed. If you’re someone who plans to make a ton of money daily, online, you have no option but to “follow what I have to say” word by word.

I had to have money to make money — especially online. -Brian Finale

I mentioned above that there’s only a couple of ways to succeed in an MLM — I’m not trying to sell you anything what-so-ever. I’m not going to provide you with a list of the “couple of options”, because without leveraging this one, there’s no since in wanting to know what the others are. They all go together — plain and simple. To leverage an MLM, as I have done for hundreds of network marketers and for myself, you must own your very

There was a neat little post on search engine roundtable today and it seemed to have raised interest in many website owners. The information provided by the author of the article was’t very useful, so I have decided to rehash the article here, in order to provide some insight on the topic. Truth is, the internet doesn’t hide anything – no matter the topic, it has been mentioned many times online, so whatever topics you and I decide to write, it has already been done, and as time moves forward, the web will be filled with more and more crap content. Search Engines rank articles higher in the search engine report pages (SERP) when the content is fresh (up to date), unique (not copied but written by you), and provides a lot of insightful information, in length.

How Many Backlinks Do I Need?

How many backlinks you need to rank your website on the first page of Google or any other search engine, isn’t the question we need t answer here. The question is, how often should I create backlinks or at what consistency. When you build links without knowing what you’re doing, you can very easily set off red flags and spam filters via the search engines. Things like this is what gets your website penalized and or deindexed. Pay close attention, as I explain to you exactly how this is done correctly.

How Many Backlinks Do I Need?

Fast or Slow ?

Link Velocity is the term used when defining the speed used, at which links are established. Link building should appear to the search engines to be as natural as possible. When I say that, it is extremely important that you follow the guidelines below:

In order to make your link building to appear as natural as possible, it’s really important to your businesses success that if you begin building links at a high volume, that you remain creating links at a high volume. Only gradual increasing is acceptable at anytime. If you start out building links at a low volume, then you my friend, better continue doing the same on a daily basis. It’s fine if you miss a day. Links are not found by search engines until any given search engine crawls the website in which you created a link. Some webmasters choose to ping their backlinks. Some choose to not ping their backlinks. I suggest you not to ping

Google realized that too many marketers was beginning to game the Google search engine, and it was taking money out of the “under the table” Google marketers, so Google had to make some changes. Google recently declares that it is the unique, quality content that ranks and nothing less.

google author rank

One of the latest Google updates is Google Author Rank. This update came after the post penguin and panda Google updates. Similar to page rank, Google uses author rank to position website’s within the Google SERP. This is just one small part of the at large Google Algorithm. The difference is that page rank is based on the quality of web page where as author rank is defined to identify the authority of blogger.
