The Underworld Of Local Search

Helping Website's Be The Best They Can Be Since 1999

Throughout the years, Google has fought spam by approaching it from many different angels. Google doesn’t necessarily have to penalize you, through a manual penalty, just because you’ve submitted a reconsideration request to Google, and they reply saying that they haven’t taken any actions, this doesn’t mean anything. The automated penalties is what you have to keep a close eye on. Then again, if you’re not involved in any type of spamming techniques, then you don’t have to worry at all.

SMX West 2013 – Full Conference Agenda was held yesterday (March 11) and turned out to be a good looking conference. I didn’t get to go, so I wasn’t there. I did find some really interesting details online, surrounding the event. I thought you might enjoy taking a look at some of it too.

For me, the most interesting part, was a link. So, to say the least, I’m glad I didn’t waste my hard earned money. Here’s the link — hope you enjoy it as much as I have.

While I almost forgot, Matt Cutts did mention something about a ”next generation” of Google Penguin, he stated that it is coming in 2013. Penguin 4 ? Guess we’ll just have to sit and wait. I wouldn’t stop doing anything I’m doing though,

As the title mentions, Google has unfolded a really powerful, Russian Link Network. As some of you might very well recall, Google deindexed many Blog Directories and Networks, just last year — due to them being over ran by link spammers. Many underhanded SEO’s was taking advantage of these link networks, using them to generate backlinks for themselves and for their clients. Underhanded trade will be something that will always be around, as long as there’s a clientele base — to say the least, many SEO’s are still practicing the same underhanded search techniques that led them to being penalized by Google, just months ago. [No Links Required I Hope]

Russian Link Network Spam

It just so turns out, not even a few months after all those recent Google updates, Networks being deindexed, webmasters being thrown from the SERP, families losing their homes due to underhanded internet businesses going under for breaking search guidelines and etc, blackhat SEO’s have already been back at it again — It seems it didn’t do them much good this time though, and as from the looks of it — Googles Matt Cutts is fresh on their tails — before they could really get started!

The above Tweet came out of Twitter, just 5 days ago. Strange that none of us heard anything about any of this — that is up until this evening. I received a spam email, to my inbox, the email linked to this Spam site.

I read through the spam site, to gain a more clear understanding of the situation. The spam site, linked me to this Russian Link Network.

This is proof that spammers will never stop. This is also proof that Google won’t either. ;) For Google to have gotten their hands around this one, it must have been a pretty popular network, eh? What strikes me, is that enough SEO‘s had to of been using it, makes me wonder who was using it. It seemed to have been the new Link popularity in Russia (and other countries) [[[Hacked Sites]]]. If your website was hacked any time within the past year, you might want to make sure that there’s no suspicious links embedded in your “old articles”. Seems like daily I come across really popular sites, that shows a maleware warning. Makes one think! The price for website security is worth it, going into 2013.

What’s Next? Please leave your comments below and if you was using this Russian spam network, I’d love the insider (watch closely for your site to be deindexed next) news :)  Please share this post and let the rest of the world know about this. RxSEO The Underworld of Local Search

Read About It on The Blackhat Crap Forums

In 2012 Google started sending out Webmaster Notifications to Webmasters, when Google found a website (Webmaster) to be in violation of the Google guidelines. There was many Webmasters to receive a Webmaster Notification throughout the Google Penguin and Google Panda updates. If you’re like me, then you’re to the point of being sick to your stomach of hearing about Penguins and Pandas. I’m going to steer clear of that topic, just for you.

I’ve always wondered if all webmasters have received basically the same notifications — then again, I don’t know how many different notifications the Google Webmaster team sends out. Although, today Matt Cutts released a new video on this topic.

Just so happens — 90% of ALL  Webmaster Notifications are Blackhat related. This only confirms my speculation per the amount of spammers in today’s marketing scene. I’ll tell ya — you better be very careful when you’re choosing a link building or SEO service provider. Here’s the facts (provided by Google)

  • Black hat notifications is ~90%
  • Low or no quality content is ~4%
  • Hacking is ~3%
  • Buying links is ~2%
  • Selling links is ~1%

There’s a Google Plus comment that I found to be quite interesting.

A very large problem within Google Maps is business owners not knowing what to do about their Google Maps listing, when they move business locations or how to solve the problem their self.  We have seen Google employees tell to mark their old business location as closed – though the problem with doing so is very problematic – two fold..Local SEO

(1) Google Maps will show your business listing as being closed.

(2) All reviews you’ve accumulated over time will vanish with the “closed business listing option”. Why would anyone do this?

Almost a year ago, Google promised to make some changes to correct this issue, and well — after a year, Google has made the small correction.

Reported by someone from within the Local SEO scene -

The problem with this  folks is that it does not solve problems one and two, above.

(1) It does in fact say that the business might of been relocated or closed – though it does not say either or – it says both.

(2) The reviews will still yet become removed when you follow Google’s new route.

Instructions showing how to do this have been provided here and again, it does not. correct everything.
