The Underworld Of Local Search

Helping Website's Be The Best They Can Be Since 1999

As the title states, there won’t be anymore manual Google Panda updates. Truth to the matter is, Google has incorperated the Panda Algorithm structure, into their Algorithm. This is good and bad. The good news is, Googlers won’t be doing this manually anymore, and the bad news is, Panda will be an automated process. As most of you are already aware, when an automated penalty takes place, you’re normally not even notified, and it isn’t something you can file a reconsideration request on. Makes for a lot of questions, and I realize that, bur I’m currently not in a position, where I can answer those, at least not until I learn more about this.

All in all, I think you’ll be ok. Automated penalties aren’t contracted as often nor as severe as what manual penalties are. Manual website reviews open the doors for all sorts s of prejudice, whereas an automated penalty would be completely processed by a machine (The Google Algorithm)

As per the recent Google Panda update, that happened over ths past weekend, and as far as what I’ve discussed with you above, you can read a lot more about that on Barry Schwartz post, over on Danny Sullivan’s website, Search Engine Land. I do not support  their beliefs, and that website is not affiliated with RxSEO.

This is just another update, from Google. There will be many more, where that came from. I expect 2013 to have a lot in store for webmasters. This post was meant to be a simple update about Panda, I will keep it short and sweet. There’s really nothing else going on today, I’m really busy in the background working on local seo campaigns, for various customers, but I will try and start back blogging regularly here, within the next couple of days. Please stay tuned. Use the commenting section to comment, or ask questions, and I’ll be more than happy to pop my head out of the water.

I’m also currently busy working on a really awesome project, over on Google Plus. I’ve started a really unique “Google Plus Local SEO Community” and so far it’s going really smoothe. It’s a community for webmasters to help one another with SEO problems, learn more about local SEO and to bring all local SEO‘s and local SEO enthusiest together and unite. It’s the perfect place to get ALL of your questions answered, on any topic. No question is too smart! ;)

Visit us on Google Plus and let’s have some fun! https://plus.google.com/u/0/communities/108872072649387120197?cfem=1

How To Us Blackhat SEO Safely To Your AdvantageHow To Us Blackhat SEO To Your Advantage: By now, I’m sure you’ve heard of Blackhat SEO and how it can hurt your website. By now, you’ve probably familiar with what Blackhat SEO is, and are likely familiar with some of the Blackhat SEO strategies. The difference from White to Blackhat SEO is a very fine line.

How To Us Blackhat SEO Safely To Your Advantage

Here in Kentucky, there has been a problem lately, on the freeways, due to drivers making Uturns, using the center median. The said to be “problem“, is the fine drivers are having to pay, when getting caught by the police, while  they are in the process of making the Uturn. The “problem” with this is the $60.00 fine. Drivers in Kentucky said that, they don’t mind the fine, because this is a way of getting something done, in order for them — to get to where they’re going. It’s a very small risk to take, and not every driver gets caught, with their pants down.

Local SEO is becoming the most important marketing factor for business owners, from all over the world. I’ve recently found that more and more webmasters are doing their own Local SEO campaigns — for not only their own websites, but for sites of clients too. I recently done some really in depth research on Elance and Odesk (Freelance Platforms) and what I found, made me sick to my stomach.

The Number One Reason Why You Have Failed At Local SEO

What I found, was that Freelance Local Search Optimizers and Foreign webmasters are providing tons of services on Elance and Odesk and aren’t providing their clients with results. Afterward, I sit down and pondered upon this unbelievable aspect of what’s going on in the Local SEO market. A lot of us don’t see this going on, because it’s going on behind these outsourcing and freelance platforms, and not a lot of people are blogging about it. Truth is, there isn’t many of us who focus 100% on the topic of Local SEO.

Not only is the blame on freelance marketers and foreign webmasters, but the same amount of blame is on local webmasters. The reason I have found that so many of you have failed at search engine optimization, is solely because you’re too focused on advanced strategies.

why you have failed at local seo

Those of you who know me, know that I’m a personal fitness trainer. Something I seen in the gym for many years, was people using suppliments, energy drinks, protein drinks, etc. Everyone wants to be a chief, and no one wants to be an Indian, and what I mean by that is, everyone wants to get to the TOP, with the least amount of work possible, and by spending (investing) the least amount of money imaginable.

Marketing To Offline SEO ClientsTo be frank — I haven’t done a whole hell of a lot of offline marketing, for this business. Truth is, I just started marketing my business offline — in mt hometown. In this post, I want to discuss some of the more beneficial aspects of marketing your business offline, and help others to learn some of the ways I plan to hit the offline SEO market. I would like to ask you guys to please use the comment form below, and provide your opinions and experiences there. There are too many marketers, marketing 100% online — and truth is, this is why there’s so many marketers failing at their chosen business startup. Failure doesn’t have to play a role in our businesses, but it does take some offline motivation.

Offline marketing is so scarce, that when I do some research in Google — this is what I found initially. I went to Google.com and typed in this keyword:

how to approach an offline seo client

What I found was shocking. The #1 Google listing, took me to a website, that was no longer online. It was a 404 page. The second listing was for an old, shitty sales page. The entire first page was crap. Take a look for yourself. This is great evidence of how many people aren’t marketing offline. This just goes to show how wide open the market really is.

Here lately I’ve purchased some signs for my business. I visited a local custom signs company, and had some 4feet by 4fee\t business signs created, using the RxSEO logo, and business information. I posted one of the signs in my front yard, and another at the top of the road, where I live.

The signs turned out to be so nice, that I called the company where I purchased them from, and requested to have 2 more made. I plan to post those around town. The reason I went with such a large sized sign, is because anything smaller couldn’t easily be read by someone driving by. Business signs should establish an offline brand awareness locally.

My Offline-SEO Client Getting Strategy, for the near future is going to take a little more motivation and guts. I’m going to have to start going around and introducing myself to local business owners.

It’s too easy to just sit behind a computer all day, everyday. There’s too many people doing it. If you’re a marketer, then by now you’ve come to termjs with how difficult it is, getting started online.

As a local search optimization professional, I’m steadily reviewing other sites and using Google all day long — on most days. What I’ve come to find through my website reviews, more so than not is that most websites aren’t optimized for on site strategies. Before you leave this page, due to you already knowing all there is to know about on site SEO – give me a moment of your precious time.

Many of the sites I’ve recently reviewed are those of my competitors — SEO Companies. To my surprise, most of these SEO Companies had a very poor on site SEO score.

Whoa — Why is This?

It’s simple — most people, including SEO’s like to presume that Link Building is number one. Now, don’t get me wrong, there are more than enough websites out there that teach things that are far from the truth. It’s not because these website authors are trying to lead you in the wrong direction, it’s solely due to the fact that they too was taught the wrong way. They paid a little bit too much attention to those who called themselves professionals, when in reality they are still a baby in this business.

I tend to not judge others. Those who fell into the trap of the blind leading the blind. These guys simply need to be taught how to do things more correctly.

One of the biggest misconceptions in the SEO community is:

Title tags: Google measures it in character limits. This is not true. Google measures title tags by pixels.

In order for you to make sure your title tags are SEO optimized correctly, you need to export your title tag data into an Excel doc. You then must change the font you’re using, to Arial. Make sure to use font size 12. This is exactly what Google uses.

Set the Excel column width to 520 pixels — that’s Google’s cut off limit. Anything more than the standard 520 pixels is going too be too long and anything under 350 pixels is going to be too short. Follow the directions I’ve provided you 100%

My Recommended guideline for perfectly optimized title tags:

Roughly 50 to 65 characters in length.
Use unique titles on every page.
Use the title tag keyword twice (once at the start, followed by separator, and then once again in a call to action).
If relevant, include a geo-qualifier (such as Kentucky or Morehead, Ky).

Image Optimization Tips:

One of the biggest mistakes I see, is how webmasters (webdummies) use numbers and other crap to identify an image. I’m not talking about the image ALT text, I’m referring to the “name” of the image. This plays an important role in your overall optimization score.

Image names should be description in nature. They should accurately explain to a search crawler what the image is about. If your image is used as a link, the ALT tag functions in place of the anchor text. A linked image should follow this structure:

By ensuring that all images are properly named and tagged, you will not only increase the SEO value of those images, but you will increase the likelihood of receiving referral traffic from image search results.

Local Search Optimization isn’t just about Link Acquisition. Above I’ve provided a couple of awesome tips you can be using, to help you do much better in search. I will be providing a more in depth article, including more advanced tutorials, in our upcoming blog posts. Stay tuned!

When you think of link building you think of what you’ve been taught through random SEO internet sources. Sad to say but the majority of SEO’s on the internet in today’s marketing era are saturated with what they’ve been taught. If you was lucky enough to have gained information from one of the very few veteran SEO’s, then I applaud you, for the rest of you — it’s time you found a new source of information and learned a thing or two about link acquisition and how to apply link building for local search.

Link building can be really tricky due to all the false information on the web, and due to all the tricks that the novice link builders have written about, while they was very likely still learning to implement their new link building software. Link building is not done automatically with software. I realize that there’s tons of link building software on the market today and in order to know what works and what doesn’t, takes a ton of trial and error. Anyone who has been building links for a long time knows all too well that blackhat SEO doesn’t work and those who have gotten it to work for them, came to learn first hand that blackhat SEO is a very short term business life. Google is becoming too smart and too powerful in today’s marketing age to attempt anything outside the box. Sure, things like that used to work, “back in the day” — but today it’s just childish to assume you’ll achieve TOP search rankings from childs play.

Enough about that — let’s talk link building for local search. When it comes to establishing backlinks for a local SEO campaign, things are done differently, from how their done when implimenting an international SEO link building approach. Makes since, as times progresses, so does marketing strategies. If things was the same today as they was 15 years ago — everyone and their granny would have attacked the internet, and Google wouldn’t be anything close to what its become. The next time you see someone writing about how much they hate Google, etc keep this post in mind. Google can’t simply continue with their tail between their feet.

After seeing warnings by the truck loads recently — webmasters and small businesses alike

For a very long time now people have had questions relating to social media having benefits on search engine ranking factors. I’ve written post in the past pertaining to some case studies that showed Twitter (Tweets) to add benefits to ones ranking and I have seen others speculate the same. Some presume that Facebook “likes” add value to ones Facebook fan page, then again I suppose it would, otherwise why would there be a such a thing as a “like”. Either way these aren’t something I would have given enough attention to. And now Google+ ? Wait a minute…

@MarkTraphagen Has Eric Scmidt Really Just Confirmed Author Rank?

It’s true — Google Plus has tons of benefits on your search ranking factors. We will discuss some of those factors a little further down the post — for now let’s just take a look at what Google Authorship really is. I’m sure that by now you’ve read a lot of articles or, at least seen a lot of articles about Google Authorship.  There has been a little bit too much confusion when it comes to Rel=”Author” and Rel=”Publisher”. I’d be surprised if the mass majority of you are even aware of how or why you should use these, and how very important they’re now becoming.

I’ve had a few people ask me to help them to get their picture to show up next to their Google listing, like they’ve seen some of the others doing. I’m personally surprised at how long this has been available, for the majority to just now be figuring out what it even is.

Google Employees have what they refer to as a privacy act. They’re not suppose to publicly discuss algorithm factors, unless otherwise given permission. So, it’s fiesable to say that it’s been a while since a Google employee has made a public statement, concerning

Local Link Building – - From all the riff raff I’ve listened to throughout all this Google Penguin crap, I’m almost to the point of being sick of telling people that spam doesn’t work. I wish I knew how many times I’ve told business owners that in order to manage a successful online presence, one must build their website with quality links and quality content. That’s really what it all boils down to. People aren’t just now starting to build successful websites or make money online. Online marketing and SEO has been going on now for almost 20 years! Get with the program guys.

Here’s a really awesome video that I think many of you will enjoy.

Link Building Tips 2013

A little hard work goes a long ways, especially when you practice what you preach. Local Link Building is different from your average link building campaigns. If you’ve never targeted a local keyword before, you sure as hell don’t have any business offering local SEO services – you need a ton of hands on practice by practicing on your personal sites – long before you go spamming your services. What gets me is that not everyone can be a SEO. SEO isn’t something you just one day decide you want to do, then just do.

I really fell in love with this great video by Ed Parsons. Listen to what Ed himself has to say about Local Searches and Local SEO. This says a lot about what the year ahead, has to bring forth. I applaud those of you who’ve invested on your journey per marketing your business with local intent. For all those businesses who haven’t yet come to terms with just how powerful the internet is, their competitors are going to put a large % of them out of business this year. I can’t say I didn’t try to warn you!

I found the video transcript to have been posted here first, so I won’t be posting it here on RxSEO. If you would rather read what Ed has to say, instead of sitting back and listening to it, then click through.

2013 is the year of Local. Prepare for what’s ahead by getting an early start. Use the contact form in our sidebar to contact us right away!

If I had to guess I’d say that 100% of you have asked yourself or someone else this question, at some point in the past. The question still remains — some speculate whether or not there’s actually an answer to such a question — pertaining to which keyword one would be focusing on.

How long will it take before I’ll see my ranking results?

All of my clients have asked this question. It never fails, and I don’t suspect it ever will. I’ve started giving all my clients the same answer, even though all my clients are very different, the fact shall remain; how long it will take to get YOU rankings — will determine many factors, though one of those will always conclude — Local SEO is a long term process, and doesn’t come overnight. Although this is the answer in which makes many potential customers turn their cheek from wanting to invest in SEO, it’s a fact. Whether or not you predict your business to be standing in several months from now, should also be something you should be concerned about. I’ve never really understood the fact that clients want results now — but not tomorrow. Sure Local SEO takes some time, and then again so does anything worth achieving.
